Exhibit on display at the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley through December 19, open Monday-Friday from 10-3 PM.
“American Monomyth: Route 66 Today” showcases a collection of 66 photos from Kilgore’s 2024 28-day open road journey following the path of the former U.S. Route 66, from Chicago through to Los Angeles, then back again. The extensive series continues Kilgore's 25-year history of exploring vernacular landscapes with particular focus on urban streetscapes and signage. The South Bend exhibition marks the first time these 66 works have been shown together.
U.S. Route 66, established November 1926, was one of the original highways in the United States Numbered Highway System. Spanning more than 2,400 miles, it became one of the most famous roadways in the U.S. This exhibit focuses on connecting and contrasting contemporary American life along this now decommissioned highway with the symbolism and folklore many still hold as their view of "The Mother Road."
“American Monomyth: Route 66 Today” continues through Friday, Dec. 19, and can be viewed Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. Admission is free.
