The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley will celebrate the work of the late Jewish photographer Andy Sweet (1953 – 1982) with a free photo exhibition in South Bend until Friday, November 17th. Exhibition hours are Monday-Friday, 10 AM-3 PM.

The exhibition is made possible with support from the Kurt & Tessye Simon Foundation of Temple Beth-El and the Fine Arts Committee of the Jewish Federation.

Sweet was a pioneer in color photography whose work captured the eccentricity, fun, glamor, and kitsch that were a part of the lives of older Jewish immigrants, many of them Holocaust survivors, who lived in the South Beach area of Miami, Florida in the 1970’s. His photographs have been exhibited in museums and fine art galleries across the United States and in Europe, a testament to the way his images connect across generations and cultures. This will be the first time his work will be shown in South Bend.

“Andy’s work continues to be a timeless legacy to his artistic vision,” said Moshe Kruger, the Federation’s Executive Director, “and he shows us that aging can be a joyful process – one to be celebrated, not avoided.”
